Rwanda 2007 The Trauma Resource Institute led a team into Rwanda in October of 2007. We brought the Trauma Resiliency Model under the invitation of and leadership of Karen Bronk Froming, PhD. Karen is one of the US leaders of bringing healing modalities to Rwanda.
Rwanda 2015 The Trauma Resource Institute collaborated with the African Health Exchange on a project to bring CRM Train the Trainer workshop to Rwanda. This was accomplished in February 2015. TRI’s Global Trainers, Mary Lynn Barrett, LCSW and Eva Nagel, PhD were the lead trainers, teaching the Community Resiliency Model and developing Rwandan CRM Skills Trainers. Mary Lynn has led our Community Resiliency Model efforts in North Carolina along with Stephanie Citron. The CRM Training was very successful and TRI will return to Rwanda in 2015 for further enhancement training.
In October of 2015, Elaine Miller-Karas led a team to Tanzania through a project funded by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee to do a follow up training for our CRM Skills Trainers from Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya and to train a new group in Tanzania with the help of our African CRM Skills Trainers. We had a lively, productive meeting with many exciting developments in how CRM is being spread in different parts of Africa.
Of particular importance is the development of the Rwandan Resiliency and Grounding Organization (RRGO) ngo that was started by Samuel Habimana, a psychologist, in Rwanda, to spread the skills along with his colleagues trained in February 2015. In 2016, RRGO has done many trainings throughout Rwanda, most recently in September and October 2016.
Rwanda Resilience and Grounding organization in partnership with Department of Clinical Psychology, University of Rwanda organized CRM skills trainings for the students at the university who are ready to join the academic internship from November, 2016 –January 2017. There is a plan in action to train new students with a collaboration with the University of Hamburg.
