Description

Two Day Advanced Trauma Resiliency Model® Training

Dissociation, High Impact Injury, Behavior Change: Motivational Interviewing

Course Description:

The Trauma Resiliency Model ®(TRM) uses a set of nine skills to stabilize the nervous system and reduce or prevent the symptoms of traumatic stress. TRM is a clinical intervention based on current research about the brain that reflects the knowledge that there is a biological response to stressful and traumatic events. The model provides a perspective that views the reactions experienced after traumatic events as common reactions, thereby depathologizing symptoms and shifting the paradigm from one of human weakness to one of biology. This advanced course will focus on enhancing the skills of practitioners working with individuals who have traumatic stress reactions from high impact injuries like car accidents, medical procedures and violent assaults.  The course will also share the concepts of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and how Trauma Resiliency Model Skills can be interwoven into MI to enhance behavioral change.  The course will also discuss dissociative processes and how using TRM skills can promote healing with clients who have been diagnosed with dissociative conditions.

Overall Goals:

  1. Participants will review and practice the 9 skills of the Trauma Resiliency Model
  2. Participants will be oriented to how to use TRM skills with special populations

Objectives:

  1. Participants will identify two or more ways to use the Trauma Resiliency Model to reprocess trauma related to high-impact physical and emotional experiences, which include automobile accidents and medical procedures.

  1. Participants will identify two or more Motivational Interviewing concepts and two or more ways to integrate Trauma Resiliency Model Skills within a Motivational Interview.
